Functionality

The decoating systems manufactured by RATIONAL are a technical prerequisite for the removal of old coating residues. Decoating itself is a chemical process in which technical coatings are removed by reaction in the decoating bath. These are based on aluminium, titanium, chrome or zirconium, among others. An optimal decoating process does not attack the substrates, so that they can be reused several times afterwards.

The necessity of decoating is that a good recoating provides a long lasting adhesion on the tool. It requires a suitable clean substrate.

Our paint stripping and decoating process is adapted to the personal requirements of our customers and to the objects to be decoated. Accordingly, we have designed our offer for the different decoating processes of physical, mechanical and chemical cleaning.

The coating of tools and other parts such as hobs, shank work indicators and aircraft components enhance their hardness, functionality and durability. Wear and tear of tools require both regrinding and recoating.

    • Physical / thermal decoating process

    These processes are suitable for cleaning temperature-resistant hooks, hangers and miscoated components. In this process, the parts are gently and effectively freed from adhering contamination under the influence of heat and oxygen. During the coating process, not only the components to be coated are coated, but also the auxiliary materials and tools. This ensures a trouble-free coating of the actual components to be coated.

    • Chemical process

    Chemical decoating is a process used to gently remove a coating without destroying the substrate material. Various types of chemical reactions are used for this purpose, which ensures smooth removal of dirt particles depending on the material.

    • Mechanical process

    The mechanical decoating process is mainly carried out by sandblasting. Aluminium oxide (corundum) is used as the common medium. Mechanical decoating is particularly suitable for large-area parts when the applied coatings are too thick and chemical decoating becomes ineffective. The process can also be used to remove coatings from fixtures and components where there are no major requirements in terms of avoiding destruction, maintaining the external dimensions and, in particular, the roughness of the formed surface.
